Symfony: Day#1

Symfony is a web application framework for PHP projects. It aims to speed up the creation and maintenance of web applications, and to replace the repetitive coding tasks by power, control and pleasure.
Symfony is entirely free and published under the MIT license.

I'm currently following the online Symfony tutorial which can be found here: Practical Symfony.

This post documents how I got Symfony 1.4 running on an Ubuntu 10.04 Server installation. When I installed the server, I chose the option to install a default LAMP and Email server.

Withdraw from Paypal thru BDO

In a previous post entitled Withdraw from Paypal thru Citibank, I revealed how I was able to withdraw funds from my Paypal account to my credit card. In this post, I will detail my experience in Withdrawing from my Paypal account to my current account in BDO.

I initiated the withdrawal on July 8 2010. The amount was: $200.00. I chose this amount so as to not incur the PHP50.00 withdrawal fee that Paypal charges for amounts less than PHP 7,000.00. Paypal automatically converted the $200.00 withdrawn into PHP 9,033.10. Doing the simple math, Paypal used 45.1655 as the exchange rate.

Withdraw from Paypal thru Citibank

Thru some stroke of luck which is another story altogether, my PayPal account has accumulated a considerable amount of credits. I've now come to the point where I want to make use of the credits I've earned. This meant using the withdraw features of PayPal and there are several options of getting your money here in the Philippines. This post discusses one of them.

As this was my first attempt at using the PayPal credits I earned, I opted to use the money to pay for my credit card bill. My VISA credit card is from Citibank and it's the same credit card I used to verify my PayPal account.

Slow git fetch, pull and push on Ubuntu 10.04

With our recent attempt at migrating to git, a lot of issues were expected and this post documents one of them.

Some of our developers installed Ubuntu 10.04 and they are experiencing slow remote operation specifically git fetch, pull and push. I first suspected an error in the git server setup using indefero but the other users on Ubuntu 9.04 did not have this problem.

Investigating further, I found that using ssh to connect to the git server was also slow which could be the cause of the problem. To find out what happens during ssh connection I did:

InDefero with Git on CentOS

In my never ending quest to improve the development environment at the office, I started looking at DVCS(distributed version control systems) and was leaning towards migrating from subversion to Git. I started looking for an easy way of managing a Git repository and came across InDefero.

InDefero is both a code and project management system that is similar to GoogleCode.

This post documents what I did to setup InDefero on a fresh install of CentOS 5.4.
