Safely Rebooting a Hanging Server

When all else fails, go to the physical server console and hit:
Alt-SysRq R (wait for 21 secs)
Alt-SysRq E (wait for 21 secs)
Alt-SysRq I (wait for 21 secs)
Alt-SysRq S (wait for 21 secs)
Alt-SysRq U (wait for 21 secs)
Alt-SysRq B

Then cross your fingers as the server should reboot
